Presently, D. Sykes Wilford holds the W. Frank Hipp Distinguished Chair in Business Administration at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and is Senior Advisor to Access Corporate Finance, London. With a primary interest in financial economics and global economic trends, his focus is diverse, ranging from specific asset allocation and hedge fund risk management techniques, to longer-term economic and global financial market trends.

Since the completion of his Ph.D. in Economics, Sykes has held several positions in academia and business. He was an Economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as well as Chief International Fixed-Income Strategist for Drexel in London. Sykes was also responsible for Chase Manhattan Bank's interest rate and foreign exchange forecasting activities within the Economics Group, developing, leading the Bank's central bank relationship program, and its Advanced Financial Risk Analysis (AFRA) education in London and New York.

Subsequent to his forecasting activities, Sykes transitioned to trading and derivatives development at Chase in London, developing various business lines related to risk management and financial engineering. Sykes founded and managed the Portfolio Strategies Group and the Commodity Swaps Group in London, which created the market's first portfolio swap and the first oil swap. In doing so, he oversaw the development of the funds management capability (hedge fund). Following his career at Chase, Sykes focused more on asset management in his role as Chief Investment Officer of Bankers Trust Private Bank and later CDC Investment Management, a hedge fund.

Sykes has written in both the academic and professional press. His articles have appeared in research journals such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Applied Finance, The Review of Financial Economics and the Journal of Finance. He has authored, co-authored and edited five books, ranging from economic policy in developing countries to Managing Financial Risk. While pursuing his career in the City and on Wall Street, he has maintained academic relationships with several universities in Europe and the US.
